Juicy and Exuberant

A friend described my paintings as juicy and exuberant, which I loved! The comment was about my use of color, cheerful and energetic almost to the point of being Fauvist in style. I like to describe my paintings as expressionistic because I want to show how it felt to be there, rather than simply copying what my camera sees.
That description might apply best to my “produce aisle,” the handful of still(ish) life paintings I have done. Even then, the subject has to make me feel something, whether it’s multiple colors of peppers and eggplant from the farmer’s market, avocado and lime about to become guacamole, or tomatoes from our own garden on my contrasting color Fiesta plate.
A couple of produce aisle paintings (they tend to go fast) are now on view for the first time in years. And, appropriately, they’re at Ivy’s Simply Homemade, whose amazing chef does daily takeout specials and deliciously interesting catering, too. Their new tasting room for bridal and catering clients is where my art exhibit will be. My travel paintings will also be featured, for honeymoons or fond memories…
Please join us on Saturday, June 13, for an art opening featuring Ivy’s delicious nibbles. They’re located on route 1, at 316 Boston Post Road in Waterford, tucked away in a strip mall (with ample parking.) I’ll be there from 4:00 to 7:00 and hope you can stop in to say hello – perhaps coming or going from the shore?!
Hi Laurie, and thanks for reading/commenting! Wish you could be there, too. Artsy types in this family need to stick together. 😉
Beautiful Beth! WIsh I weren’t so far away, I would be there!
Deb, that would be super! Postcards should be ready next week; I’ll be sure to get you one as a reminder.
Hope to be able to come and enjoy your paintings!!
Well, if you somehow can make it… Sue, you’d love some of the new paintings of Greece, Spain and France. Miss you!
Hi Beth, wish I could fly up to be there for this great art exhibit opening! I’m sure it will be successful. Good luck and enjoy – and keep on painting these amazing “juicy and exuberant” paintings!
JP, wish you could be here, too – we could do a pizza tasting contest!
And now the state of CT too offers a juicy & exuberant “pizza” (license) plate! Wish I could join Ivy’s delicious nibbles with Beth’s juicy & exuberant paintings! xo
